I graduated cosmetology school in 2013. Rather than jumping right in, I worked production at JBS and made doughnuts at Caseys at 3:00 a.m.! This wasn't meeting my desire as to how I wanted to live my life! This led me to begin taking the appropriate actions to steer my career in the direction I wanted it to go! Enrolling in Barber School was a great first step to getting to learn how to use the razor!

 

Being a female barber has brought its own obstacles since it can be a new concept for males to get their hair done by a female barber! I was told things like, "You're a girl" "I've never had a girl cut my hair, can I have someone else?" My feelings would get hurt, but I didn't let that bother me. I told myself, "I am going to show them that being a female won't stop me from being a barber.  I have let that be my determination to be the best barber that I can possibly be! I have learned a lot and grown tremendously within the past 3 years working at different barber shops.

 

One Love was born from my path. Self love is a must and motivator and if you love yourself, no one can hurt you! So, I have taken the hurt and have chased my passion!

 

Being able to have my own barber shop is a dream that is coming true for me! I have always wanted my own barbershop, but never made my move. I was too scared to do it all alone. I kept hearing that crazy voice saying, "Just do it!" So, here I am making my move as a solo female because anything a man can do, a lady can do, too!  My heart always wants more, so I do more! This pushes forward to be the best barber that I can be for this community that has given me so much support!

 

Giving back to my community is important to me and I plan to do this by giving free 'Back-to-School' haircuts for kids.

The biggest compliment that I receive is that look a customer gets when they look in the mirror after I have done their hair. When customers tell me that they get compliments on their hair, it feels amazing. I have also witnessed how a good haircut can change a person's self-esteem.

 

I work with all hair types including ethnic hair. If there is something that I don't know, I will learn it. My goal is to be able to do it all. Never did I imagine being where I am at today.

 

When I'm not at work, I spend time with my kids whether it's outdoors exploring or on the sidelines of a soccer field. Having balance in my life is important to me. Being a single mom to a high schooler and twin boys keeps me busy and hasn't made it easy to get where I am today, but they drive me to do more! My kids bring out the inner child in me every chance they get!
